Nou heb ik vrij weinig met vliegen maar de architectuur van dit gebouw deed me vrijwel meteen denken aan bouwstijl het Nieuwe Bouwen en dus was mijn nieuwsgierigheid gewekt.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Geschiedenis<\/span><br \/>\nDe eerste plannen voor een luchthaven in Eindhoven stammen uit 1919 maar bleven op de plank liggen tot 1930. In de eerste plannen stond de locatie voor het vliegveld nog niet vast er werd gesproken over Tongelre, Stratum, Woensel en Strijp. Uiteindelijk kwam het vliegveld nabij Zeelst wat nu Veldhoven is.<br \/>\nLuchthavengebouw Welschap werd in 1932 geopend en was niet meer dan een grasbaan. Het prachtige gebouw op de foto werd in 1935 gerealiseerd en is gebouwd naar ontwerp van ingenieur Dirk Roosenburg. Naast luchthavengebouw Welschap ontwierp hij diverse gebouwen voor Philips waaronder de Witte Dame met haar kenmerkende Lichttoren. Maar om bij de luchtvaart te blijven hij ontwierp ook het eerste KLM logo.<\/p>\n<div id=\"jig1\" class=\"justified-image-grid jig-af9d97ab75bf6e3bbca0228ddf6c9c3b jig-preset-global\"><div class=\"jig-clearfix\"><\/div><noscript id=\"jig1-html\" class=\"justified-image-grid-html\" data-lazy-src=\"skiplazyload\" data-src=\"skipunveillazyload\"><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-7.jpg?fit=900%2C600&ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-7.jpg?h=550\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-6.jpg?fit=467%2C700&ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-6.jpg?h=550\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-5.jpg?fit=900%2C600&ssl=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/liesbethblogt.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/20200611-5.jpg?h=550\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tweede Wereldoorlog<\/span><br \/>\nDe droom van een machtig vliegveld werd al een paar jaar na de opening de grond ingeboord. Het werd kort na de Duitse inval overgenomen en kreeg de naam <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eindhovenairport.nl\/nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fliegerhorst Eindhoven<\/a>. In korte tijd verdween de grasbaan en werd de toren van het gebouw gecamoufleerd als molen. Er kwamen ook verharde banen en er vielen bommen, zoveel dat het een wonder mag heten dat het gebouw enkel beschadigd is geraakt. Na de oorlog is het luchthavengebouw opgeknapt en weer in gebruik genomen tot in 1984 de nieuwe basis open ging.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Architectuur<\/span><br \/>\nHet gebouw is op verzoek van de KLM gebouwd die een lijndienst vanaf Eindhoven wilde. Het toenmalige gebouw werd daarmee te klein. Waarschijnlijk door het eerdere werk van Dirk Roosenburg kreeg hij de opdracht en vervaardigde de tekeningen. Dat er in dit kleine gebouw ruimte was voor passagiers, een caf\u00e9, restaurant met terras, verkeerstoren, voor verkeersleiding en douane geeft wel aan hoe uniek het gebouw is. Toch is het niet het oudste nog bestaande gebouw van de luchthaven, ook die bestaat nog en bevindt zich dichtbij de ook nog bestaande hangaar in wat nu de wijk Meerhoven is.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Huidige tijd<\/span><br \/>\nVoor jaren werd het oude luchthavengebouw niet gebruikt en stond te verpieteren op wat toen militair terrein was. Dat veranderde eind jaren 90 toen de plannen voor de Vinex-wijk Meerhoven concreet werden. Het gebouw kreeg een nieuwe functie als informatiecentrum en is in 2000 gerestaureerd en duurzamer gemaakt.
